URSSAF declaration due 31 October: Q3 turnover and the 2027 deadlines
The end of October is the first big autumn deadline for a micro-entrepreneur. By the 31st, quarterly filers declare July–September and monthly filers declare September. If you look this date up online, you will almost certainly read that by the same 31 October you also have to choose your filing frequency for 2027. The official URSSAF site says otherwise — here is where things stand on 8 October 2026.
This is a news piece. It explains deadlines and steps and is not tax advice. Dates were checked against autoentrepreneur.urssaf.fr and service-public.gouv.fr on 8 October 2026; links are at the end.
What to file by 31 October
You file your turnover declaration in your online account on autoentrepreneur.urssaf.fr or in the URSSAF mobile app, and pay your contributions there too. Which period closes now depends on the filing frequency you chose when you registered:
- quarterly — turnover from 1 July to 30 September;
- monthly — turnover for September.
You declare what actually reached your account during the period (encaissé), excluding VAT (HT) — not the amount you invoiced. An invoice issued in September and paid in October goes into the next declaration. If you opted for the versement libératoire, your income tax is paid with this same declaration.
You must file even if your turnover is zero. Missing a declaration costs about €60 each time (€60.10 in 2026) — see our guide to micro-entrepreneur surprises, point 4. If the deadline has already passed, file as soon as you can: without a declaration, URSSAF charges contributions on an estimated turnover, which is usually much higher than the real one.
31 October 2026 is a Saturday. Don’t count on the weekend: at the end of the month the URSSAF site is under heavy load, and the help desk doesn’t work at weekends. The safe deadline is Friday, 30 October.
Declaration and payment of contributions: July–September if you file quarterly, September if monthly. The 31st is a Saturday.
Deadline to opt for the versement libératoire if you started in July 2026 or later: for a July start, by 31 October. For everyone else, the 2027 deadline passed on 30 September.
October–December declaration and the last day to change your filing frequency for 2027. The 31st is a Sunday.
A deadline often misreported: changing your filing frequency
Many articles, including recent ones, say that to switch from quarterly to monthly filing (or back) from 2027, you have to apply by 31 October. The URSSAF site currently gives a different date.
The FAQ on autoentrepreneur.urssaf.fr now says this: your choice of frequency applies for a calendar year, and to change it for year N you must apply before 31 January of that same year N. For 2027, that means 31 January 2027 — the same day as the October–December declaration, so it makes sense to do both together. 31 January is a Sunday, so aim for Friday, 29 January.
The same FAQ has one exception: if you receive a France Travail benefit (the URSSAF text still uses the old name, Pôle emploi) or minimum social benefits (minima sociaux), you must file monthly, so you can pass proof of income to those bodies on time.
If you are unsure which to choose: monthly means smaller payments, but twelve declarations a year and twelve chances to forget. Quarterly means four declarations, but bigger amounts that you need to set aside in advance. If your turnover is uneven, quarterly is usually less stressful.
A deadline that has already passed: the versement libératoire for 2027
The versement libératoire lets you pay income tax not once a year after your tax return, but as a percentage of turnover with each URSSAF declaration. To have it from 1 January 2027, you had to opt in by 30 September 2026. If you missed it, the next chance is 30 September 2027, for 2028.
The exception is new businesses: for them the deadline is the last day of the third month after the month of setting up. For a July 2026 start, by 31 October; August, by 30 November; September, by the end of December (service-public’s example gives 30 December — go by that date).
It doesn’t pay off for everyone. You can only opt in if your household’s reference tax income from two years earlier (revenu fiscal de référence) is below a ceiling: according to service-public, €29,315 per tax share for 2024 income, i.e. €58,630 for a couple (for opting in 2027: €29,579 per share on 2025 income). Whether it saves you money depends on the tax rate you would pay without it — run the numbers in the simulator on impots.gouv.fr.
If you registered this summer
Your first declaration doesn’t come straight away: 90 days must pass from your activity start date, and the first declaration covers all your turnover from day one. Example: you started on 15 July and file quarterly. The 90 days run out on 13 October, so it is too early to declare the third quarter: your first declaration is due by 31 January 2027, covering the whole period from 15 July to 31 December.
Your online account shows the exact date of your first declaration. If you haven’t opened it yet, our URSSAF guide explains how to set it up and what happens in the first nine months.
What to do this week
- Log in to your account on autoentrepreneur.urssaf.fr and check which declaration is open and what your filing frequency is.
- Add up what you received during the period from your bank statement or your income ledger (livre des recettes) — excluding VAT, and only money that has already arrived.
- File and pay your contributions by Friday, 30 October.
- If you want to change your filing frequency for 2027, set a reminder for January: the deadline is 31 January 2027, better by Friday the 29th.
- If you started in July 2026 or later, your versement libératoire deadline hasn’t passed yet: July start, by 31 October; August, by 30 November; September, by the end of December.
