Guide: a website for a café or restaurant

For a café or a restaurant, the website has to help people decide quickly: menu, photos, opening hours, map, booking and reasons to trust you.

What you get

Menu; booking; map; hours; photos; reviews; Google profile

A client chooses where to eat in about a minute, and usually on a phone. They need the menu, the prices, the opening hours, the address, some photos and a way to book — they will not read anything else.

The decision takes a minute

People choose a place fast and on the move. If the menu opens as a PDF, the hours are buried at the bottom of the page and the address isn’t clickable, the client goes to the place next door where all of it is visible at once.

What has to be visible immediately

On the first screen: what kind of place this is, where it is and when it is open. Then the menu with prices as text, real photos of the room and the dishes, a map, and a booking button or a phone number.

Website or Google profile

If your resources are limited, start by filling in the Google Business Profile: it appears in maps and search and answers most of the client’s questions. The website comes next, when you have more to say or want to take bookings directly.

01

Menu and prices

The menu as text on the page, not as an image or a PDF: it has to be readable on a phone and findable by search. Prices are essential — leaving them out drives people away more effectively than high figures do.

02

Hours, address and map

Opening hours in one place and always up to date, public holidays included. The address as a link to a map, so directions open with one tap.

03

Photos and booking

Real photos of the food, the room and the people rather than stock images. Booking by button, phone or messenger — but never behind a long form.

A word about language: in a French town with tourists it is worth offering at least the menu and the key information in a second language. Translating the whole site is not required for that.
